Sat Oct 15

I just entered my blog for today and lost it.........frustrating!

So we'll try it again.

Around Sep 15 I started sewing for a wedding for my friend that lives across the street.  His oldest daughter was getting married on the 30th.  I had 5 dresses to make and beleive it or not, I got them done and they all fit perfectly.

The pattern we used was Butterrick B5457.   The fabric was a teal and gray taffeta.   The pattern wasn't difficult to sew, however, the inner lining on the bodice didn't fit.  I had to open the seam at the bottom of the princess lines and spread them 1/2 inch.   On the first one I did that, then forgot for the 2nd one so I had to do the same thing.   On the rest I made the piece slightly larger toward the bottom of the pattern.  That worked.

I altered all of them.  The first one was a size 12.  She was short waisted so I had to shorten the waist 3/4 ".   When we fit it, I had to bring the side seams in 1/2 and ended up making the back seam bigger in order to keep it up on her frame!  So the final measurements on the pattern weren't true.  She was a perfect size 12.     The rest were 14.   I enlarged all of them, and two of them ended up being size12 when I finished!
the Matron of Honor was a grey dress with a teal band.  I had to enlarge the pattern up  from the largest size.  I did a full bust adjustment and lengthened the waist.  This was a challenge in that I've never done an FBA on a bodice that was pleated like this one.   I was so stressed out worrying if it would fit properly.  but I had the bodice ready to try on and I had the skirt and lining ready  to attach.  I adjusted the bodice a tiny bit, then she went home   I took the dress over at 7a.m. and it fit perfectly.  I was so shocked.  I'm getting way too old to do this kind of thing last minute, but that was no one's fault but my own..
The dresses all looked like the pattern, thank goodness and they all looked pretty.  I don't think I'll make this pattern again.  It was easy to make, but fitting was a bear.  Oh and I put the zippers in by hand.  They turned out really nice.   I love this family.   They've grown up right before my eyes.  Where in the world does time go so quickly?    Sigh...........

Makin progress but no camera

21 Jun, well, once a month blogging may be my thing.  As for sewing, I have done a little bit.

Yesterday, I got home early and cut out a quilt block for my BOM club I'm in.

Went to put the pieces together and 4 of my flying geese units were an inch too small!
I took my blood sugar and it was pretty low, so I shut things down and called it a day and ate some lunch.

Sunday, I took a pattern and fitted it to me.  I'm trying to remember the pattern number?  Oh well.   I'll post it tomorrow. (I'm at work waiting for my system to come up)

I have a poly/cotton purple flower print I'm going to muslin it with.

This will be an adventure as I've not sewn for myself since my son was a toddler.  He's 16 now...so.....

He wants me to make him a pair of pj bottoms.  He picked out this money fabric several years ago.  So I've got his pj bottoms to make a pattern from......

always lots of things to do.....never enough time to do them in.  (sigh)

Where did the time go?!!!

Wow.  Jan 29! So much for being a regular blogger.
My gd and I did  a quilt top for her doll.  It turned out really cute.  Of course, I don't have a picture. (sigh)

So what have I been doing for the past 5 months?  Not a lot.  I have made about 10 quilt blocks for my BOM clubs.  So I'm pretty well caught up with that.

Now, I'm ready to make that t shirt I was talking about in January.  So wish me luck   I'm very super sized so this will be a BIG adventure, I'm afraid.

Saturday

How is it the week can go so slow, and the weekend so fast?
Today was my gd 7th birthday.  We gave her a little Janome machine as she has asked to learn to sew.  It is one I had for a few years, so I gave it to her.
Still trying to finish that quilt so I can get to my personal goals.

January 25, 2011

Once again, I'm going to try and create a blogspot that I can keep up with.  I've not been super successful before.
I've got a lot of projects planned for February.  I'm really into quilting right now, but my first love is fashion sewing.  I sew for everyone but myself.  This needs to change quickly, as I'm fast running out of clothes.

The first thing I want to sew for myself is : Vogue B5053
I want to make the t-shirt on the right.  I am plus sized, so I will have to alter the pattern to fit.  This is one of the reasons I've not sewn for myself.  It is a lot of work, and I'm not sure how to do it.   So I will be going by trial and error!
The fabric is a light pink knit.  It is very thin, so I will double the fabric, kinda like a lining.

Then I want to sew Vogue B5047.  I have a black, poly linen blend.  Nothing expensive, so I can use it as a muslin.  If it works, then I'll have an outfit, if it doesn't, that's ok.  I bought it as a mulsin with the idea of buying something really nice once I perfected the pattern.
.As soon as I can get my camera functioning online, I will post pics of the fabric.

Today I am going to work on a baby quilt I am making for my friend.  Hopefully I can get it done this month so I can start on my own projects.  I did so much sewing at Christmas time for others, I didn't get anything done for myself.  Now it's my turn!

At the beginning of the year I started on Weight Watchers.  I'm doing the online program.  I've only lost 3.5 pounds, but it is a start.   I gave up diet coke back in May, now I'm trying to give up sugar.  Oh my it is difficult, but I want to be successful, so I'll just keep plugging away.
For my birthday last year I bought a dress form....it'll come in handy now that I'm going to finally sew for myself.  Even though I'm planning on losing weight, I will be able to use it for quite some time.  Which is good, because they are pretty expensive.

Well, enough blogging for today.  I'm off to the sewing room to get started on that blanket.  I took a floating holiday today so I could do some sewing.
